Oliver Hannon-Dalby is poised to join Warwickshire after he impressed on trial at Edgbaston and Yorkshire agreed to release him from the final year of his contract.

The 23-year-old Halifax-born seamer was given permission to train with Warwickshire, the county champions, last month after holding talks with Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of professional cricket, about his limited first-team opportunities and future at Headingley.

At 6ft 8ins, Hannon-Dalby is one of the tallest bowlers in county cricket but failed to play a single championship game last summer during Yorkshire’s promotion season. He has now fallen further behind in the pecking order following the recruitment of Liam Plunkett from Durham and Jack Brooks from Northamptonshire during the winter.

Having been given permission to train with Warwickshire, he has done enough to persuade Dougie Brown, their newly-appointed director of cricket, to sign him and his move is expected to be announced today.
