Martin Firth strode forth in Sunday’s Liversedge Half-Marathon.

The Queensbury Running Club stalwart’s 82min 41sec was the time for an over-50 and he finished 17th overall.

Firth notched an impressive age-related performance of 82.3 per cent, compared with the world’s best in his age-category, but close behind him was Bradford-Airedale newcomer Adrian Royston in 85.08.

Liversedge is a traditional early marker for those preparing for the London or other spring marathons.

Holmfirth’s Matthew Pierson led the 455 finishers home in 73min 32sec. Spenborough’s Kevin Ogden was the best local in fifth (77:11), with Otley’s Tom Midgley eighth (79:26).

The over-40s dominated the ladies’ race with Keswick's Samantha Ayers (1hr 30min 55sec) leading Stainland’s Julie Field and Holmfirth’s Jacqui Khouiery.

Pudsey & Bramley’s Rachel Pilling was first under-35 in 1.34.59, while Eccleshill’s Claire Hern is returning to form after having a baby and was the first over-35 in 1.35.38.

A total of 147 fell-runners completed the tough Wadsworth Trog race on Saturday.

The course takes in 20 miles and 14 checkpoints across the tops north of Hebden Bridge and involves 4,000 foot of climbing.

Calder Valley’s Karl Gray wom by almost 20 minutes (2hr 49min 11sec), ahead of Glossopdale’s Mark Ollerenshaw. Bingley’s Paul Mitchell was first over-50 and sixth overall in 3.24.12.

First lady was Valley Striders’ Kim Threadgall in 3.36.43, which was good for 21st. Ilkley’s Jann Smith was third in 3.50.20.

The Bradford ParkRun at Lister Park on Saturdays at 9am continues to grow in popularity, with 273 running this week.

Saltaire’s Will Kerr ran an impressive 17min 35sec on this undulating, two-lap course.

Bingley youngster Thomas Potter came third in only his second running of the event in 18.20. Clubmate Andrea Dennison was the leading lady in 20.43 in her 48th ParkRun.

Entries are still open for the district’s two spring-tide mass-participation races.

The BigK 10k in Keighley on Mothering Sunday (March 10) is organised by Sue Ryder Care, and the  Bradford 10k on Sunday, March 24, at 9am from Centenary Square, is organised by Epilepsy Action in Yeadon.
