Bosses backed to steady ship at Silsden

The honeymoon period for the Cobbydalers’ interim bosses soon faded but everyone at the club is fully behind the pair after they stepped into the breach.

Following a parting of the ways with former manager Chris Reape, the committee at Silsden knew whoever took over would be faced with the same financial constraints. That was partly the reason why they approached two old hands.

Andy Geary and Paul Schofield had both previously managed the Cobbydalers and the initial feel-good factor brought them a win in their first game in charge.

And what a win it was as Silsden beat leaders Maine Road, who had won 11 games on the trot.

But a defeat and four postponements followed before last Saturday’s 5-1 home defeat to Glossop.

Only one of the two stand-in bosses was in the dugout that day and neither will be overseeing tomorrow’s trip to high-flying Runcorn Linnets, with Michael Rosser and Kevin Knappy stepping in.

Spokesman Jim Rosser said: “Andy is away so Schoey did it on his own against Glossop but he is a coach with Blackburn Rovers’ Academy and the age group he looks after have a tournament at Manchester tomorrow.

“They have been doing their best in very difficult circumstances.

“We have a very young squad and confidence is low after the run we have had but the structure is right and I’m sure the experience of this season will stand us in good stead for many years to come.”
