Three and easy for Cleckheaton
6:00pm Sunday 3rd February 2013 in Sport By Alan Bentley
Cleckheaton 26 Pocklington 7
Following the enforced winter break Cleckheaton picked up from where they left off in January with this third successive win of the year.
The hosts had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half but were unable to gain a foothold in their opponents' territory.
Early penalty chances were missed for both sides but the only score of the first half came from Cleckheaton with the tried and tested routine of a line-out catch from Oliver Akroyd, a powerful forward drive to the line and the inevitable try for skipper Richard Piper.
Cleckheaton had far more cohesion about their play in the second half and were rewarded with three further tries from Danny Nolan, Martin Woodhead and James Wilson.
Iain Gordon converted all three tries and was also instumental in varying the play and exploiting weaknesses in the Pocklington defence.
The visitors had their moments in the second half and were rewarded with a solo try from young scrum half Jack Fletcher, converted by Nick Bennett.
