Frustrated Bradford Park Avenue players are 'climbing the walls'
6:10am Friday 1st February 2013 in Sport By Ian Whiting
This has been a familiar scene at Horsfall Stadium over the last few months
Avenue boss John Deacey is keen to see his players back in action this weekend after the club slipped to 13th in Blue Square Bet North.
Four postponements on the trot have caused problems for Deacey and his squad as they prepare for tomorrow’s home game against Solihull Moors.
The manager and his coaches have struggled to find adequate training facilities in that time so there is a fear of ring rust.
However, that is not Deacey’s biggest fear. He explained: “The weather doesn’t look too good so I’m worried that we may miss yet another game.
“All the grounds are already saturated and there is more rain, and even an overnight frost, forecast so we are waiting to hear if it’s on. The players are climbing the walls because they haven’t done anything for a while.
“We have got to get started again – it has been an absolute pain. It will be a tough one as well because Solihull are up there and we have to get used to playing again but the table is very tight so it’s a very important game.”
Avenue haven’t won in the league since a 4-1 away triumph over Histon on the first day of December.
Solihull have climbed above them in that time but have played one game less.
Deacey added: “We have not been able to find places to train because of the weather so it has been a really bad period. We had hoped to get together when last Saturday’s game was called off but no one could train that day with all the problems that the snow brought.
“At least they are all fit, that is the biggest bonus. I will be picking from a full-strength squad.
“All the suspensions have gone now so I have a selection headache but that is the type of problem we want.”
