Doncaster's a no go for Guiseley in derby

Guiseley have missed out on a trip to Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium because opponents Harrogate Town are staging the Yorkshire derby at their own CNG Stadium.

The Lions were also denied the chance to stage this Blue Square Bet North fixture at Nethermoor.

Town have been playing some of their league games at the Keepmoat because of ongoing drainage problems at their ground and had discussed the possibility of switching venues.

Lions boss Steve Kittrick said: “I’m very disappointed it’s not at Donny as the players would have enjoyed that.

“Harrogate wanted to switch it to our place to make sure it was played because they are miles behind with their fixtures but the league wouldn’t allow it. They said that it would be an unfair advantage but sometimes it’s harder playing at home than it is away.”

Second-placed Guiseley are looking to keep the pressure on leaders Chester, who have opened up a 16-point gap on their nearest challengers. The Lions do have four games in hand though and are still nine clear of third-placed Brackley.

Kittrick said: “If it is played it will be a tough one because Harrogate have decent players and it is a local derby. They come into it after a big win over Corby, who I think are a very good side.

“But we had a good win in very tricky County Cup tie against Harrogate Railway in midweek and we have a full squad raring to go.”
