Bradford tail off after solid start
4:40pm Wednesday 30th January 2013 in Sport By Richard Bakes
Right on Cue
Bradford’s billiards side let a good start slip away as they lost 5-2 to Huddersfield No 2 in the Yorkshire Inter-District League at Great Horton Conservative Club.
John McEachran made an early break of 46 for Bradford to lead Frank Griffin 50-13.
Griffin pulled back to just 12 points behind at one stage but McEachran held firm and ran out a worthy 200-169 winner.
In the next game a break of 40 took Paul Devitt 105-80 clear of Huddersfield opponent Jezz Ford but he then got stuck.
A break of 40 and several other contributions enabled Ford to take a commanding 149-105 lead. A late recovery from Devitt proved too little, too late as he lost 200-184.
Both players struggled in the final game, with neither able to register a break over 30.
It was John Ingleby who eventually took the honours for the visitors with a 200-140 win over Bradford champion Stephen Kershaw that clinched the overall victory.
Bradford are not in action again until Saturday, February 16 when they host league leaders and defending champions Leeds, again at Great Horton.
In the snooker competition, Division Three leaders Bradford No 2 came unstuck at Wakefield No 1 with a 4-2 defeat.
Tanveer Mohammed and Boover Singh both shared their frames but captain Hanif Rafiq had a rare off day and lost his two.
Division One leaders Bradford No 1 travel to play second-placed Castleford No 1 on Sunday, knowing that a good win will put one hand on the title with only four matches remaining.
