Richard Lightowler still Mr Perfect for Dewsbury Tog
5:20pm Wednesday 30th January 2013 in Sport By Sports Desk
Richard Lightowler maintained his perfect Bradford League record for Dewsbury Tog as he kept his team in contention for the Division One title.
The Yorkshire first-team veteran is ranked among the top ten in the country and recently finished runner-up in the over-40s singles at the Western Masters in Hereford.
Lightowler boosted his league record to 30 wins out of 30 with another treble in a 6-4 win against Dewsbury Sedbergh.
Tog looked set for a comfortable victory as they raced into a 4-0 lead through Lightowler beating Ian Denton and Dave Heppenstall, while Phil Bell and Steve Crosby overcame Hepptenstall and Steve Morris.
Sedbergh then came to life and took four of the next five singles, with Denton winning two and Morris and Heppenstall adding one each.
But Lightowler had the last word as he and Bell easily secured the doubles to keep Tog within touching distance of leaders Highdale B.
In Division Four, Steve Smith starred for Pudsey B as they maintained their promotion push with a 7-3 victory at Highdale D.
Smith won all his three singles and was well supported by Granville Thornton, who took two, while Kingsley Smith added a single.
