West Bowling rookie Luke Robinson has been selected to tour Germany with Great Britain Lions Under-17s.
The highly-rated prop, who plays for Bowling Under-17s in the Yorkshire Combination League, has fought back strongly after being released from the Bulls at the end of his two-year scholarship.
The 17-year-old has already played this season for Yorkshire against Cumbria and Lancashire and Australian side Central Coast Centurions, who he also played against for Great Britain.
Bowling Under-17s coach Frank Levy said: “Luke has had a bit of a tough season having been released from the Bulls.
“But he has battled really hard at club level and is now reaping the rewards, not only with his club but also Yorkshire and Great Britain.”
Robinson also aims to play for Keighley Cougars Under-20s after his club and country commitments are over.
Levy added: “Most players of Luke’s age may have let the disappointment of his release from Bulls discourage them but he has used it as a spur to push himself harder.
“As his club coach I couldn’t be prouder of his progress not only as a player but a person.
“I believe Luke’s story can help inspire other young players who suffer the disappointment of being released from a Super League club.”
