Bradford City women set to be frozen out again

With temperatures unlikely to get above freezing this weekend, Bradford City’s second-round tie against Nottingham Forest in the FA Women’s Cup on Sunday could face a third successive postponement.

The scheduled match at Carlton has twice been postponed and the FA have now switched the tie to City’s home ground at Thackley.

Only private grounds have even the faintest chance of staging a game this weekend as Bradford, Leeds and Kirklees have all closed council pitches.

This means North East Regional League Premier side Guiseley, fresh from a 4-3 win at Hull City, are hoping for a giant-killing when they entertain Huddersfield Town at Nethermoor in the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup, while Kirklees are due to play Leeds City Vixens in the remaining tie.

Guiseley’s scorers at Hull were Caroline Hulme (2), Julie Richardson and Neeley Murrell.

In the Southern Division, Kirklees won 4-0 at Bradford City A in their last game with goals from Chloe Roberts (2), Jayne Smith and Claire Needham.

But Keighley Oaks went down 1-0 at Doncaster Belles, who now face Ossett Albion on their 3G pitch.

Tingley moved to the top of the West Riding League Premier Division after a 6-3 win over Harrogate Railway.

But there was no joy for Bradford Park Avenue, who had captain Sarah Huby scoring at the double but lost 5-2 at Pontefract SSC, while Ossett Town slipped closer to relegation after a 5-1 defeat at home to Wakefield.

Farsley edged closer to promotion from Division One after first-half goals from Chloe Wainwright, Millie West and Hayley Hare earned a 3-0 win over leaders Altofts, while Silsden stay second following their 1-1 draw at Hebden Royd.

In Division Three, there were 8-0 defeats for Dewsbury Rangers at home to Oulton and for Skipton at Amaranth.

City’s under-18s are through to the semi-finals of the Harrogate & District League Cup after beating Wetherby 9-2. Wetherby took an early lead but Molly Sharpe curled in a superb long-range equaliser and a further six goals followed before half-time.

Jess McPherson (2), Rachel Clegg (2), Anna Mitchell and a second by Sharpe made it seven, with Azaria King (penalty) and Lucy Turner on target in a quieter second half.

South Leeds came from 2-0 behind to beat Avenue 4-2 and earn a trip to Brighouse, while City are at home to Wigton Moor.
