Nick Scruton ready to take significant step up with Bradford Bulls

Nick Scruton warms up ahead of the Bulls’ opening pre-season match at Dewsbury Nick Scruton warms up ahead of the Bulls’ opening pre-season match at Dewsbury

Nick Scruton is relishing his latest return to Leeds on Sunday as he continues his road to recovery after two injury-plagued seasons.

The Bulls prop showed glimpses of his best form during last weekend’s opening pre-season friendly win against Dewsbury.

Scruton’s display encouraged hopes that he could enjoy a big year in 2013 following injuries related to his wrist and shoulder and being diagnosed with diabetes.

The 28-year-old tasted Super League title success and World Club Challenge glory during his time at Headingley and will be among a number of former Leeds players returning to their old club for Danny McGuire’s testimonial.

“It’ll be a significant step up this week against Leeds because I’ll be able to see where I really am and where we are as a team,” said Scruton.

“Last year I didn’t really offer anything so it felt great to get out there against Dewsbury.

“There were some good signs from a lot of players last week and I think Franny (Cummins) has got the best out of everyone so far.

“Having a full pre-season has helped and I just feel a lot fitter and a lot stronger, although I think the same could be said of a few players.

“It would be nice to establish myself as a starting prop but if Franny wants me to come off the bench, I’m happy to do that.”

Scruton progressed through the ranks at Leeds to play alongside McGuire in the Rhinos’ first team and is a huge fan of the mercurial half-back.

“We both came through the Academy together, although Maggsy was two years above me, and we go way back,” said Scruton.

“I’m proud to be a part of his testimonial. I’m glad that it’s Leeds versus Bradford and that I get a chance to play in it.

“Danny’s a class player and would be in an all-time Super League dream team, without doubt.

“He’s one of the good guys in the game and I hope everybody turns up to support him because he’s one of the best.”

Scruton crossed the great divide when he swapped Leeds for Bradford ahead of the 2009 season.

He said: “I get a mixed reception when I go back there but it’s always good to catch up with a few friends. It should be a good test for us.”

So Scruton does not think Danny mc would be nothing without burrow and Sinfield, That's interesting that's exactly what one poster posted yesterday.

Even allowing for 'double negatives' in the semi-illiterate post above, it is somewhat confusing. I cannot find any words quoted by Scrutes regarding McGuire's ability other than positive one's. Maybe the poster has an insight into Scruton's thinking that normal people do not possess. Maybe it can see posts made yesterday that non Trolls cannot read. Or maybe it's just more of the usual rubbish?
.
My own opinion of DM is that he is a opportunist try scorer but does little in controlling the game like most classy halfbacks.Just my opinion unless someone really knows what I mean....

Shown up again son give it up or revert to your other username like viking when he has been owned.
Scruton says DM great player but that is total opposite to what was posted on here yesterday saying he was nothing if not playing with burrow or Sinfield.

if all the snow we are told is coming our way arrives today, the game might have to be postponed anyway. that would be a real shame as i have been looking forward to this game for some time. regardless of the fact it's billed as a friendly , its still Bradford v leeds so there will be some intensity to the game.

Presumably with the weather as it is there'll be some form of pitch inspection on sunday morning. I can't imagine either club wanting to risk injuries this close to the start of the season.

The pitch will not be the issue as its a new 1million one with under soil heating.
Problems tend to be the standing areas and walkways.

I knew they'd relaid it I didn't know they'd put theheating in though. Suppose it won't be a problem then, and snow's easy enough to clear. Game on.

As for Scruton and the actual story, I'm looking forward to seeing him play. I reckon he could do a good job for us so long as he can keep fit.

Unfortunately for him that won't happen.

We'll have to wait and see what the season brings. I know he'll probably pick up the odd knock as everyone tends to, particularly being a prop, but lets just hope he can avoid anything long term.

On a similar note I'm curious to see how Phil joseph does at Widnes with some regular game time. I'm not expecting him to be a world beater mind.

If all you're wanting to do is sl*g people off or try and troll can you please just take it elsewhere? Some of us who post on here would like to have a conversation about rugby once in a while. Thanks.

The idiot misquotes everyone in the hope that someone will rise to his silly and pointless rhetoric.
The previous attempts at being sensible have now gone out of the window, as we know the leopard can't change his spots, and all the sensible posters have exposed his drivel for what it is.

At least we've hoisted him/her with his/her own petard.

By the way I know what you mean as you are right...Burrows and Sinfield are playmakers, Mc Guire is a finisher. Like you that's my opinion, and no doubt DMc will recognise that for himself.
For our dull and dimwitted friend it's called synergy.
