City have confirmed the signing of Kilmarnock centre half Michael Nelson on an 18-month deal.

The 32-year-old former Hartlepool, Norwich and Scunthorpe defender has joined for an undisclosed fee.

Seem to remember this guy from when he played for Hartlepool, and recall him being a bit of a big unit, which I mean in the nicest possible way.

In the short to medium term, and by that I'm talking this season, I think it's a good signing, as we needed an experienced centre half with Davies and Oliver sidelined.

In the long term, when both these 2 have returned, I'm not sure where he will figure, but if we don't go up then Davies won't be here anyway.

Interesting to see if he comes straight in the team at the weekend and against Villa; although I think McHugh's better at centre half, he could switch to left back.

another centre half? 32 on an 18 month contract. Looks like Davies may be gone next season.

Its not all doom and gloom. I dont think we are preparing for a departure from Davies, but ensuring we get promotion and are able to keep the best players. If we dont go up, we would lose Davies, Doyle and Wells at the very least. This signing is about giving the likes of McArdle and McHugh a chance of a rest. It also would allow McArdle to move to right back and give Darby the chance of a rest!
This is exacely what the cup money should be used for, its called investment! weve paid 50K for him, if we go up it will be money well spent, if we dont, we've still got a decent centreback for next year and another (harder) push fpr promotion!

Over the two seasons Davies has been with us injuries have robbed us of his services.
Club's will look at that and may not be queing at his door for his signature.
I haven't seen anything of nelson so I won't comment on his ability.

McArdle is a far better centre half than he is a full back.This signing has been made in the case of McHugh or McArdle getting injured.We still have the priority of promotion in our sights and parky confirmed the above said on radio Leeds this morning, and by what i remember of him he will be a good addition to the squad.Davies will still be 5-6 weeks from returning to full fitness so i think its a good signing although i do still think we could do with another Big striker/ target man to ease the pressure on Hanson.

More good news........Radio L--ds reported this morning that meredith will be out for a month with glandular fever and not all season as was mentioned.

Well, if they did it's not true. There is no telling with glandular fever how long a sufferer will be affected. Even if it was 'only' a month, the player would need several weeks to recover from the illness.

at last, Peter ! A very sensible post. Glandular fever, if that is truly what is, is notoriously difficult to judge and it's effect can be long lasting.

Don't get your hopes up with the Meredith news - I had glandular fever a few years ago. While the initial illness lasted about 6-8 weeks, for at least a year after I felt extremely fatigued at times, and began to suffer from vertigo attacks (which I never experienced before).
