Start is all important as Baildon lose at leaders
Old Rishworthians 16, Baildon 9
Head coach Dave Duxbury's message to his team that the first 20 minutes of the game would be vital proved prophetic as Baildon conceded all 16 points inside the first quarter.
The home side got off the mark with a penalty on 11 minutes, followed by a converted try three minutes later when the Rishworthians No 8 crashed over from a five-metre scrum following a defensive mix-up.
The normally reliable boot of Jarrod Huss failed to get the Jenny Laners back into the game with two errant penalty kicks on 15 and 18 minutes but his opposite number had no such problems with a successful penalty on 20 minutes to edge his side further in front.
Duxbury made several changes at half-time and his decision to put his son Jake into the No 10 berth proved a turning point as the youngster took control of the game and the kicking duties.
Baildon began to run the ball at every opportunity rather than kick for territory and were unlucky not to cross the Rishworthians' try line when handling moves broke down with the try-line begging on a couple of occasions.
The increased pressure on the home side led to several penalties, which Duxbury took advantage of on 44, 50 and 63 minutes to put his side within a score of the leaders.
However, the Jenny Laners had left themselves too much to do after their poor opening and had to settle for a losing bonus point, which sees them slip a place to third in the table.
