Bradford Dragons resume with tough test at Westminster
Bradford Dragons start the new year with a difficult trip to Westminster to face the Warriors in vcars.co.uk Division One tomorrow.
After an historic 2012, the Dragons are determined to go even further in 2013.
But their first test will be a tough one as Westminster have secured impressive wins against Worthing, Derby and Brixton, while also losing by less than six points against Bristol and Essex.
They currently sit tenth in the league with three wins and six losses, compared to fifth-placed Bradford’s six and three record.
They are led on court by Jonathan Johnson, who is averaging 16.3 points per game as well as 5.5 rebounds. He has been ably supported by veteran Lekan Popoola, who is putting up 9.5 points per game and 4.2 assists.
The Dragons won both league encounters with Westminster last season but are well aware of what a difficult game it can be at Moberly Sports Centre.
It will be vital for Bradford’s key players to be firing on all cylinders if they are to come away with the points.
They have been led on court by veteran Vance Silcott with a 15.7 points per game average and 11.3 rebounds, as well as rookie Ricky Fetske with 14.4 points and 8.1 rebounds.
Bradford’s first home game of the year will be the following Saturday when they tackle Bristol Academy Flyers (6.15pm).
The next day they then face a National Trophy quarter-final clash with Hemel Storm, tipping off at 4.15pm. Both games will be at Bradford College on Trinity Road.
Elsewhere this weekend, the Dragons’ under-18s welcome Doncaster Danum Eagles to Bradford College tomorrow (2.15pm).
Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College plays host to the under-16 boys against Preston Pride (12.45pm) and the under-14s against local rivals Leeds Carnegie (10.30am).
