Bradford-based Yorkshire all-rounder Adil Rashid is starting his own cricket academy tomorrow in a bid to provide a missing link.

The Adil Rashid Cricket Academy will be launched at the Karmand Community Centre on Barkerend Road (1pm-3pm).

Apart from Rashid, other England stars on the coaching staff will be his Yorkshire colleague Moin Ashraf, former county team-mate Ajmal Shahzad and Lancashire’s Sajid Mahmood.

In addition, there will be Yorkshire batsman Joe Sayers, former Undercliffe player Shaaiq Choudhry (Worcestershire) and ex-Derbyshire batsman John Sadler, formerly of Undercliffe and Hanging Heaton.

The sessions are for youngsters aged seven to 18, and entry to the first one is free.

The aim is to produce stars of the future by developing technical skills, mental discipline and tactical awareness.

The academy has already established links with Bradford Schools, Yorkshire Schools and the Lord’s Taverners, and the intention is to put talented players forward for trials at York-shire age groups, as well as finding clubs for youngsters who do not have any.

Rashid says: “Bradford cricketers and Bradford sport has been ignored for too long.

“It’s time the talent in this city is discovered and developed and I want to provide the platform and quality coaching to give young cricketers the same opportunity I had.”
