Bradford Sunday Alliance League to rule on abandonment

Only one match survived in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division, and that was at Emsley’s Recreation Ground, where West Bowling played Sandy Lane.

However, it had to be abandoned after 80 minutes with Bowling leading 4-2 because of a suspected broken leg suffered by Sandy Lane’s Stuart Cotterill.

A league management committee tomorrow night will rule on whether the result stands or if the match has to be replayed.

Bowling went in front in the 15th minute when Michael Walton scored his first goal for the club after playing for them for five years.

But within five minutes the visitors had equalised, only for Phil Brogan to net from close range for the hosts.

On the stroke of half-time, Scott Marsden’s 25-yarder made it 3-1 but Sandy Lane pulled a goal back on the hour and bombarded the home goal, twice hitting the woodwork.

However, after 70 minutes Chris Wood hit Bowling’s fourth goal, and then came the unfortunate injury which caused the abandonment.

Rain throughout the previous week meant that only 11 league fixtures went ahead due to waterlogged grounds.

The top two in Division 1A clashed, with leaders Ancient Foresters and second-placed Whitburn Athletic sharing the points and two goals in a good match played in terrible conditions.

Fourth-placed Allerton closed the gap on the top two with a 2-1 victory over Dog and Gun.

In Division 1B, leaders Beldon Sports and Wrose Albion, who are fourth, shared the points after a 1-1 draw, but second-placed White Hart had a convincing 4-2 victory over local rivals New Inn Celtic to move within three points of the leaders with games in hand.

New Division 3B leaders Sporting Pudsey had a 3-1 win at Junction Wyke, and third-placed Park narrowed the gap on previous leaders Toller by beating Grass Greener 4-1.

* Both the FA Sunday Cup ties involving Alliance teams were postponed, with Thornton United’s fixture against Punchbowl being given the thumbs down early enough to stop their Birmingham Sunday League opponents from to travelling.

It was the same for Bolton Woods against North Riding team South Bank 2006 at Thornaby FC, Stockton.
