Petanque is proving so popular in Heckmondwike that the town’s club, formed earlier this year, are seeking permission from Kirklees Council to extend their playing area.
With 50 members already playing regularly on two terrains in Firth Park, a waiting list has had to be introduced.
Club spokesman Steve Penny said: “The response to the sport here has been fantastic. This is now one of the biggest clubs in the country.”
