Bradford City defender Andrew Davies out for 'three to four months'

Sidelined: Andrew Davies Sidelined: Andrew Davies

Phil Parkinson must step up his search for central defensive cover following news that Andrew Davies could be out for several months.

Davies twisted his knee in Saturday's defeat at Burton and assistant-boss Steve Parkin has revealed he could be out for three to four months.

It is a double blow for the Bantams following news that fellow centre back Luke Oliver will be ruled out for the season.

Parkinson is casting his eye over a potential replacement today.

Not good news losing our first choice centre backs. But even without bringing someone in I'd be confident of Meridith, McHugh, McCardle and Darby doing a job. McHugh was awesome tuesday night. Obviously cover is needed though. Shame they both miss the gooners and xmas period. Lets hope we are still in the mix when he comes back in Feb/March.

This is a big blow. You have to feel for PP. He has now lost four of the most influential players in the side for long periods of time.

The squad looks very thin without Oliver, Davies and Reid and you can add Ravenhill to that for two more games too. Hope Richie Jones is back and that Gary Jones isn't feeling any ill effects from Tuesdays' heroics.

There must also be some concern about Nahki after Tuesday as he looked like he had taken a knock too.

To be honest, the FA Cup game looks less and less important now that we have our money-spining cup tie. I trust that PP will focus on Chesterfield wiht regards to team selection for this Saturday and take no risks at all.

Bad news, good luck Andy, hopefully it's not too bad and you make a quick recovery...... obviously we'll be bringing in another central defender to cover this and Oliver's long term injury. I'd be bringing Ross Hannah back from Grimsby for the FA cup game and play him and Connell up front against Northampton giving both Wells and Hanson a break before the league game against Chesterfield..

I would also give Hannah a game and also bring Williams back from Inverness if it is possible, dont know how it works, think he is under contract but no squad number. i would also give Baker a game.

We're ok with the current strikeforce at present so no reason to bring Hannah back, he's on 24 hour recall anyway so that's not an issue.

Williams isn't at Inverness, he's our player and injured until January.

This is disastrous news. With the two Mc's to call on we haven't and wouldn't miss Luke in the slightest but losing the inspirational 'Davo' for more than a couple of weeks seriously hampers our chances of promotion.

Hopefully BCFC wont miss either of the fantastic central defenders we've got injured as both are quality players as are McArdle and McHugh....would have thought we'll be bringing in a central defender early next week if a quality player can be gotten, as cover. The reason i mentioned getting Hannah back from Grimsby is so that both Hanson and Wells (tight hamstring) can have a rest before they play for BCFC against Chesterfield in the league next Tuesday.

I would be giving hanson and wells a rest too , the work rate from all the team on tuesday was massive, 2 hours football then to play Fa cup could result in a York type of perfomance at home on tuesday. Teams will be loving the amount of cup time we are getting on a stretched squad, they will relish coming to vp and snatching points.
PP wouldnt let hannah play in the F.A cup with Grimsby for a reason, he is banging goals in and the biggest threat in their league. Would be best to try something new , try and win the round but not worry too much.Connell and Hannah, Baker have played well in the reserves before.

Now we have our 2 main defenders out we need new faces quickly at the back I know Mcardle and McHugh were superb at Wigan with the latter showing skill and awareness beyond his years but we are very thin and I hope PP can bring in 2 defenders one of which can play anywhere across the back four. I wouldnt be surprised to see a season long loan and another for 3 months brought in.

Yeah exactly, give it a real go at Northampton but not with Hanson or Wells, i still believe we've got a team that can get a result there, no way would i risk burning out Hanson or risk Wells hamstring. Connell and Hannah have enough in their locker to score goals against Northampton, if we come unstuck that wont hamper our main goal of promotion...but we go down there to get a result.

I know we need to concentrate on the league but Surely you would want to find a defender not cup tied? could it work the other way round, could we get a decent player on loan with clubs/managers knowing the defender will have to play a competative game against Arsenal.

Dont think we can recall Hannah until December, then the 24hour clause kicks in, which we won't use. If we have to make changes up front it is surely better to use Adam Baker than a player who will be moved on after this season.

Williams won't get a look in either and I think both parties are waiting for his contract to expire

Not sure when Hannah went to Grimsby, it must be around a month ago, you're right if it isn't as there was a clause put in after him being there for the first month. Williams wont be here after January, i'm sure a deal will be done to release him from the remaining few months of his contract. Unfortunately he never seemed to have the concentration to be a pro footballer after he showed early promise. Him not having a squad number tells you exactly what the manager thinks of his defending. I fancy Overson and R. Jones will also be on their way along with possibly Ross Hannah.

Davo's style, where he continually puts his body on the line always poses the threat of injury. That's the nature of his game and it must be taking a toll on his body.

McCardle tends to stand off his man and plays with a more circumspect, but just as effective, style. Rory is now a key man and I hope he manages to escape injury.

Ravenhill out for 3 games, Davies and Oliver out for months all caused in one game. The verbal support against Wigan was fantastic. If we can bring that vocal support to the home tie against Burton on April the 20th, the supporters could help win that game. Every time Bell touches the ball(thats if he dare play) he should be heckled by the mighty bantams support.

Losing Oliver was bad enough, but to now lose both centre backs is a real hammer blow.

I think a contributory factor is the ridiculous schedule, with the season starting a week later, you now have to cram in even more midweek games.

Oliver's achilles and Davies' knee problems have been well documented over the past few weeks, and Jones was out for a while after having an injection in his back before the Port Vale game.

Unfortunately it looks like we've gambled playing individuals carrying knocks, and paid the ultimate penalty; I just hope it doesn't ruin our promotion bid.

We could do with a centre half on a 3 month loan, but Doyle can also play there and right back, so we've still a bit of cover in defensive areas.

We have had some bad luck losing our two defensive rocks, but lets not get too down about it. Every team loses key players during the season, ok maybe not like us at the moment, but we have a good side without them also. PP will bring quality replacements in when available. The Wigan match showed the commitment and desire within us what we all want to see. I can see us competing in the play off positions for the rest of the season. Thing's are looking up for Bradford City regardless off injuries. Financially PP wll be backed again to move us forward. The lads are buzzing and we are also. Good times are upon us and lets not forget the other players, the can do it this season im sure. We are all behind them, and they know it.
