Dyson sweeps Unity challenge aside

Police currently lead the way in Division One of the Bradford League but they were indebted to a virtuoso performance from Yorkshire veteran Tim Dyson against Unity A to preserve their unbeaten record.

Dyson’s side were in danger of losing for the first time as they trailed 4-2 but he dragged them back into the match with three singles wins, all in straight games.

Unity still led 5-4 as Neil Harris and Richard Priestley won twice each and Dave Rawlins added one victory.

But Dyson and John Chew won the doubles in three games to make the final score 5-5 and leave both sides still unbeaten.

Fastbats D maintained their 100 per cent Division Four record with a 7-3 victory over Pudsey B.

But the visitors made it tough with six of the ten sets going the distance, including the doubles.

Mick Holt was untroubled as he took all three points for Fastbats but Allan Jeffery needed five games to win his two singles and Colin Priestley also needed a decider to beat Kingsley Smith.

One of the many stable derby encounters in the league provided a close finish in Division Four as Hermits H came out on top 6-4 against Hermits G.

The H team led 3-0, 4-2 and 5-4 as Stuart Stead and Brian Cooper both won twice and John Margerison once.

But they only clinched victory when Stead and Margerison took the doubles 13-11 in the fifth game.
