Edwards helps Eagles to valuable point
7:35pm Sunday 28th October 2012 in Sport By Ian Whiting
Eccleshill United were boosted by the return of striker Marcus Edwards as they dented Louth Town’s Division One title aspirations with a 0-0 draw.
The second-placed hosts were expected to march to victory over their struggling visitors who were under the watchful eye of Mark Ellis. The former Bantam is director of football but was in charge from the dugout as caretaker boss Graham Mitchell was unavailable.
The Eagles played some very good football and matched the home side’s attacking intent. The shock was not that 19th-placed Eccleshill earned a draw but that the game ended goalless.
Edwards has returned to the club after leaving in the close season to play in a higher division. His return has given the Eagles a timely boost as they search for a permanent head coach.
The draw keeps Ellis’ managerial record intact. He had two games in caretaker charge of Guiseley following the sacking of Terry Dolan and was unbeaten then.
