Old Grovians go top after big victory

Old Grovians 60 Knaresborough 5

Grovians produced a clinical performance against a Knaresborough side who were  strong in the pack but weak on the flanks.

Leading try-scorer Ricky Hopkinson gained the first of his side’s eight tries as the home side maintained their 100 per cent record.

Knaresborough responded with a try of their own but fly half Adam Weaving, who was outstanding throughout, reasserted the home side’s
control with a penalty and 24-metre drop goal.

Skipper Chris Blackhall, Tom Dalton and Weaving touched down to put Grovians 34-5 ahead at the break.

There was no respite for the visitors in the second period as Gaz Phillips added his name to the scoresheet, Dean Hogg claimed his first try of the
season and Weaving and Hopkinson both crossed again.

Mosborough’s shock defeat at Marist means Grovians went top.
