New deal as Danny Addy aims to cement Bradford Bulls position

Danny Addy has signed a new one-year deal with the Bulls and spoken of his desire to secure a regular spot in Francis Cummins’ side.

The home-grown 21-year-old was deployed in the halves, at hooker and in the back row without ever being a regular position last season.

Having agreed a contract to stay at Odsal for next year, Addy is keen to nail down a place in the side – preferably at loose forward, which could open the door for Jamie Langley to be used as a front-rower.

Addy, who made his Bulls debut against Dewsbury in the Challenge Cup in 2010, is delighted to extend his stay at the club, despite rumoured interest from elsewhere.

“Franny and I spoke this week and he told me that he wants me playing in the back row,” he said.

“I think that’s my best position; loose forward or second row. I would be more than happy to do a job there week in, week out.

“Franny played a big part in my decision to sign a new deal. He played a major role at the club last season as assistant coach and I like him a lot.

“What he said convinced me that this is the club I definitely want to be at for a while now.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract. I believe there was interest from a few clubs but I never actually spoke to anybody.”

Addy admitted his versatility probably worked against him at times, even though it has proved useful for his coaches.

“I came up through the ranks at Bradford as a loose forward but I’ve not had many chances to play there,” he said.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to train there week in, week out and play there this coming season.

“I’m at the age now where I want to be playing as many games as I can.

“I don’t just want to be playing because other people are injured. I either want to start or be there or thereabouts every single week.”

Cummins is delighted that Bradford have been able to retain Addy for next season. “He is a very talented player who, whilst he does offer great utility value, should be looking to be more position-specific next season,” said the Bulls coach.

“I’m looking for Danny to put his hand up and stake a claim for a place in the back row next year.”

Pontefract lad Addy travels to training every day with Langley and says the Bulls’ longest-serving player is someone he admires.

Addy said: “Langers plays in my favourite position of loose forward. He’s a good role model for me and we’re quite good mates too.

“I travel with him every morning and I look up to him in a way. There’s a lot I can learn from a player of his quality and experience.”

I was watching Bank Top Harriers last Saturday, play a team from Ponty. There was a big lad running touch on the Ponty touch line. It was very muddy and the touchy had sparkling white bumper boots on and denim shorts with the turn ups. It was not warm and I thought he looked a bit of a jessy. he was then complaining about getting his bumpers muddy. Turns out it was DA lol. Well done son, getting a new contract, your rugby playing skills are far better than your touch judging.

It is a good signature to have and Mr Addy is one for the future but I don't think too many SL clubs will have been in the hunt for his signature as most are producing their own who are comparable with Mr Addy's talents. Mr Cummins does need to address the young, lightweight, inexperienced pack he has. We really need a bit of mature beef in the front and second-row.

Really like Addy, always seen him as a loose forward and think we should look to play him there next year and move Langley up to prop.
He and Nas could be starting props, Scruton needs a big year and also Chev did quite well in that role at the back end of the year too. Still feel we need a few more props to bolster the squad and a nasty second row to replace Elima to ease the pressure on Bateman and Whitehead would be good too.
Also have Olbison and possibly Donaldson as options too!!
Can't wait for new season, will be ordering my season ticket next week too!!

Another good signing. But what is happening to our beloved game? The RFL need to get a grip. What a farce they put in the TV shop window. A total mismatch in front of a few hundred people. Is there any wonder we are looked down on as a sport and find it hard to attract interest. Disgraceful.

Is this the "massive announcement" that viking was saying would make the rest of SL envious?
I can tell you as a Rhino's fan I am not envious at all..nor will fans of the Hull clubs, Wakefield, Huddersfield.
Cas maybe a bit envious, but all the other Yorkshire clubs bigger than you are just laughing, massive announcement my arris.

Goodness me, you are are an impatient little chap aren't you Timmy. I think you'll find that my friend Viking is NOT the one who will be making the announcement so you'll just have to wait a little longer. Haven't you got any other toys to play with? Maybe you could go and play some Crazy Golf with your 'pretend' buddy.

Remember this is the same RFL who put the Bulls through such a tortuous process to salvation then kicked them where it hurt most with a reduction in TV money. This is the same RFL who chose Mr MacNamara because, well, there wasn't anyone better who applied. This is is the same RFL who have managed to have England playing France on successive weeks in England! It also says a great deal about the judgement of certain ex-Bulls in Mr Kopczak and Mr Harris. Who is pulling the strings at the RFL? It would have been far better to mix the English Lions and Knights squads to, at least, get some more competitive game time. The RFL seems to be giving Mr MacNamara everything he wants but I doubt if anyone "down-under", including PNG and Tonga, can only but titter at this pointless exercise.

All those clubs have more season ticket holders than your small club.
When will it sink in that you are not a big club, and why do you refer to Huddersfield as a joke club? They have more fans, more history than your sad outfit, oh and they pay their bills, unlike the rat breeders :)

I know you've only been watching the game for 5 minutes ( Whino glory supporter, 3rd class) but you don't half spout some crap. If it wasn't for your ignorance you'd have nowt would you Timmy? Lets not have any tears before bedtime Timmy, you've been 'dry' now for a while. Keep it up.

Huddersfield, Giants in name only. Do not have the crowds we get week in week out. Sold far less season tkts than us,so far. What I call a bridesmaid team, never going to be the bride. No record as such in super league, never will have. Pay their bills, yes, but their owner has said no more out of his pocket, they have to get it through the gates. No chance. As to not being a big club what planet are you on. Oh, I know planet Tiny Tim. You have a poor understanding of the history of the game. I'll just ask two questions, who was the first team to play in three consecutive Challenge Cup Finals. What was the original nickname of your club.

He's changed his mind, it's tomorrow now, not Saturday as he said on Friday.

Viking, why would I want to know the answers to those silly questions you asked.
Here's one for you.
How many times can an adult pair of rats breed in a year?

theviking62 says...
8:37pm Sun 28 Oct 12

You'll see. As to rats I don't know how often Leeds supporters breed/inter breed. Judging by your posts inter breed is the most likely.

Still don't get it do , it's big and you'll be eating egg for a longtime. Now go away Tim, stop insulting people you don't know.

Regarding your question, would that be the black rat or the brown rat.

theviking62 says...
8:49pm Sun 28 Oct 12

A female rat can give birth 5 times per year averaging between 7-14 in a litter. Theses figures are for the brown rat.

Black rat, female produces 5/6 litters per year between 5/10 young.

Blue and yellow rats, nobody has done a survey so far.

Hi Tim but Dim have you got your season ticket yet? or are you one of the many Rhino fans not bothering because Leeds only play anything like in the last half dozen matches, so the first 20 or so matches are a waste of money.
On past form you need to follow a winning team because if things don`t go your way you start blubbing, so if Leeds aren`t succesful will you be Guisley Warrior or Wolf !!!!

Back to Huddersfield Giants didn't they merge with Sheffield to save themselves a few years ago?

Basically they are club who contribute nothing to the game. They have little away support & the ones who do turn up just call their club Fartown all game. Dont here Wigan fans saying "come on Central Park" or Saints Knowsley Road. Bit like Bulls fans singing about Birch Lane or park avenue!

150 years of rugby football in Bradford next year. That what's real history is. No other RL club can match it. Lets celebrate the anniversary in style. We owe it to the likes of Oates Ingham, who founded the club in 1863, Trevor Foster and all the other greats who have served the club throughout the last 150 years

We might be rebuilding but we're building on long and solid foundations
