WINLESS Bradford Park Avenue head to the Lamb Ground to face Tamworth tomorrow, with both clubs desperate to avoid a third consecutive defeat in Vanarama National League North.

Alex Meechan’s side succumbed to yet another late blow to lose last Saturday’s Yorkshire derby at home to Harrogate Town by the odd goal, while The Lambs were being thumped 4-0 at leaders FC Halifax Town.

Tamworth started with two victories in a three-game unbeaten spell but Andy Morrell’s men have conceded seven goals without reply in their last two league fixtures.

The Avenue boss was unhappy with last week’s performance and the mistakes his players made in the 3-2 defeat, and wants them to be more consistent going into two games over the Bank Holiday weekend that could put a totally different complexion on the first month of their season.

“There are two big games for us in the space of three days but we’re not looking any further than the Tamworth game,” said Meechan.

“Tamworth are a very good side and it will be a tough for us. They make life difficult for any side and Andy is a very good manager. I know him well and he’s a top fella and a genuine football man.

“When we were at Barrow (Meechan and Darren Edmondson), Andy was with us when he was out of a job and helped us on the coaching side.

“When you get the chance to work so closely with him, you can see obvious qualities, so I know it won’t be easy for us, especially on their new 3G pitch.”

Meechan added: “I’m trying to get someone in before the game. We’re looking at a couple of options in one or two positions.

“On the injury front, Ryan Jones could be fit. so I may have two keepers to select from, but Danny (Eccles) has done very well. Shane Killock has had a recurrence of a calf injury so he will definitely be out.”
