THACKLEY suffered a heartbreaking home defeat when they lost 3-2 at home to Cleethorpes Town to a late strike after leading by two goals at the break.

The Dennyboys edged in front in their Toolstation Northern Counties East League clash when Ben Beckles scored in the third minute and the same player added a second just before the break.

Cleethorpes’ comeback began when Caine Winfraham netted in the 56th minute and Daniel Trott equalised before Marc Cooper’s 88th-minute winner.

ALBION SPORTS have been setting the pace in the division for the local sides but they suffered a damaging 4-1 defeat at Staveley MW after the home side opened up a healthy half-time lead.

Midway though the first period, Courtney Hastings put the home side in front and he added a second just seven minutes later.

Albion’s Asif Hussain halved the deficit from the penalty spot but Kieran Watson scored Staveley’s third just before the break.

Watson added to claim his brace late on in the second half as Staveley moved within a point of Albion.

In Division One, ECCLESHILL UNITED earned a maximum thanks to Liam Bartle’s second-half strike against visitors Glasshoughton Welfare.

It was an end-to-end contest in which Welfare had their coach red-carded but Bartle headed home the winner from a 71st-minute corner kick.

LIVERSEDGE’S home tie in the first round of the West Riding County Cup against Pontefract Collieries had to be postponed after the match officials failed to show up.

There will be repercussions as both clubs are demanding answers from the powers that be.
