JER Lane have been beaten after a thrilling semi-final in the Heineken UK-sponsored Foster's Halifax League Twenty20.

Holders and hosts Copley needed two off the last ball to overhaul Jer Lane's 213, and Nick Gomersall cut it for four.

The Bradford club recovered from 5-2 to reach a 20-over total that made them favourites, with Johnny Lister retiring on 50, and 59 runs coming off the final four overs as Jer progressed from 154-4.

However, Copley made a flying start to their reply, helped by a 24-ball half-century from Freddie Hammond, whose team were 85-1 after eight overs when he walked back to the pavilion.

Skipper Craig Taylor's 50 off 32 balls kept them on target as they reached halfway on 114-3 but they still needed 25 off the last two overs and 14 from the final over.

But former Parish Cup-winning skipper Mohammed Seraj hit the first ball for six and the third to the boundary.

A single left three needed off two balls, and Gomersall held his nerve to win it for his side off the last.

By then, rain was starting to fall. As a result, the second semi-final between Bridgeholme and SBCI, and the final, were postponed until Sunday, September 6, hopefully again at Copley.
