SILSDEN will need all of the confidence their midweek cup win gave them as they go into a difficult but interesting FA Vase tie at Consett tomorrow.

The Cobbydalers were buoyed by their 6-2 victory over Evo-Stik League neighbours Brighouse Town on Tuesday but head to the football hotbed of the north east to face tricky first-round opponents.

The clubs are ninth in their respective leagues with similar stats – Silsden have 27 points from 16 starts, while County Durham outfit Consett have earned two points fewer but have played one game less.

Where the similarity ends is that the Northern League top tier is traditionally much stronger than the North West Counties League equivalent.

Consett's league form also highlights their strength at home. At their Belle View fortress, they have won five and lost just one of six league starts to date. They have conceded 24 goals so far this season but only three of those were on home turf, where their average goal tally is over five and a half per match.

Cobbydalers spokesman Jim Rosser said: "We were a little flattered by Tuesday's scoreline because Brighouse had a man sent off when they were 2-1 up.

"But it ended a run of four games without a win and that has given everyone a lift."
