Holders Eccleshill United lost their grip on the West Riding County Cup last night as they were knocked out in round two by Farsley.
In a repeat of last season’s second-round tie, the Evo-Stik League side had to make the short journey to Eccleshill but the Eagles could not repeat last term’s heroics and bowed out after a 5-2 loss.
The hosts led twice after early goals at the start of each half. John Rodgers gave them a second-minute lead and Viktor Balis put them back in front in the 48th minute.
Spencer Harris had equalised for Farsley on the half-hour mark and Adam Priestley levelled the tie again.
Then Marcus Edwards, Eccleshill’s match winner in last season’s final, edged the visitors in front for the first time, with Harris and substitute Tom Panchurst wrapping up the scoring.
Meanwhile, Albion Sports suffered a shock 2-0 home defeat to basement outfit Nostell MW in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
