JON Stead has indicated he would be open to a longer stay at Valley Parade.

The experienced Huddersfield striker is enjoying his second spell on loan with City.

Stead has played twice so far and was singled out by Phil Parkinson for his contribution in the deflating defeat at Oldham last weekend.

The 31-year-old is initially with the club until January 3, although the Terriers can call him back at 24 hours notice after his first month.

Stead, who has been sidelined by the Championship club since the arrival of Grant Holt from Wigan, wants to take the chance of playing regular games. But he would consider any offer that came up in the next transfer window.

Stead, who is out of contract at the end of the season, said: “My aims while I’m here are to play regularly and keep my standards up. A few goals would also be good.

“I’m at Bradford until January and we’ll look at it then. If there’s anything longer term, then great – I will certainly consider it.

“I’ve got to wait and see how things pan out at Huddersfield. Time will tell.

“I’ve started well and I’ve just got to concentrate on carrying on playing like that. It will give me the best opportunity for something to come along whether it’s here, back at Huddersfield or somewhere else.”

Holt is Chris Powell’s only signing so far since taking over the Huddersfield hot-seat. The striker has played a leading role in their current six-match unbeaten run and his loan has just been extended until the end of December.

Powell is expected to start reworking his squad in January but said: “The important thing is that players are given a chance, either here or out on loan, before I make the decisions which need to be made.

“I will always do everything possible to be fair to everyone at the club.

“I want to give them all the opportunity to show what they can do. If after that I decide the best thing is that we move in different directions, I will tell them why.”
