There will be an emotional return to Eccleshill’s Rapid Solicitors Stadium tonight for Marcus Edwards in the second round of the West Riding County Cup but he will be in the visitors’ dressing room.

The Eagles goal-scoring hero’s new eyrie is Throstle Nest and his new club Farsley have been drawn against the holders at the same stage in the competition for the second season on the trot.

The prolific Edwards scored the winner in last season’s final at Valley Parade as the Eagles beat Harrogate Town. It was a late penalty that saw Eccleshill lift the trophy after they had beaten Harrogate’s Conference North rivals Guiseley in the semi-final.

It will be difficult for the Eagles to repeat last term’s heroics, especially without Edwards’ firepower.

Last night’s ties saw Guiseley dumped out, losing 4-3 on penalties at Selby Town after the game had ended 1-1 and neither side could force a winner in extra-time.

Silsden, however, come form a goal down to knock out Farsley’s Evo-Stik Division One counterparts Brighouse Town. The visitors’ Shaquille Clarke-Adams’ red card just before the break turned the tie.

At the time Town were leading 2-1 after a brace for Bill Law on his debut. Tom Henderson had netted for the home side. After the break the Cobbydalers ran in five more against the ten men, Henderson again, Zack Dale twice, Danny Fagan and Chris Wademan with the goals.

In the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division, Liversedge were held to a 1-1 home draw by Glasshoughton Welfare. Kieran Corley put Sedge in front but Del Pollock netted a last-minute leveller.

Thackley won 4-0 at Armthorpe Welfare with goals from Mike Garrod, Ryan Farrell, Liam Hudson and Mark Trueman.

Tonight sees Albion Sports host Nostell MW.
