TRACK knowledge proved vital as hosts Northumbria Vikings defeated Heckmondwike 84-66 in the final Northern League cycle speedway match of the season at Newcastle.
But Heckmondwike, who had no juniors, had the consolation of breaking the track record via Pawel Idziorek.
The Polish star held the record going into the meeting and lost it to Gavin Parr of Northumbria, only to regain it ten minutes later with a sensational four-lap time of 42.1sec.
Scores: Northumbria 84, Heckmondwike 66 (Pawel Idziorek 18+1, Adam Watson 16, Darren Kent 12+1, Ryan Summersgill 8, Justin Naylor 6, Laura Watson 6).
Heckmondwike put three riders forward for the challenge match, with Ryan Summersgill, Laura Watson and Justin Naylor all taking race wins as they won the contest easily.
