GRANGEFIELD Old Boys, who beat Hunslet Club & Parkside in the Leeds & District FA Senior Cup two seasons ago, were unable to repeat the dose in this season's second round.

The Yorkshire Amateur League hosts took a 13th-minute lead through Andy Kenyon but Hunslet had built up a 2-1 lead by half-time and, despite an even second half, Grangefield never gave more than a hint that they might draw level.

However, their reserves came good with a 4-2 home victory over Seacroft in the second round of the Leeds & District FA Cup.

Glenn Metcalfe, Sam Russell, Dan Cuff and Chris Cairns were on target for the winners, who led 3-0 at the interval.

Like many other sides this season, Calverley United found the firepower of Fields too hot too handle and only a goal for Phil Coates was any consolation in their 8-1 mauling in the Bradford & District FA Saturday Cup.

The scoreline was surprisingly the same when Heckmondwike Grammar School Old Boys visited Woodkirk Valley in the second round of the Wheatley Cup.

The former students, who play in Yorkshire Amateur League Division Three, had won cup matches earlier in the season against Valley's Division Two rivals but had no answer to prolific striker Marcus Benstead (5), Chrissy Wood, Marc Barnes and Dylan Bradley.

Old Batelians Reserves, also from Division Two, gave an outstanding display at West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division side Lower Hopton before losing 3-2.

The reserves took the lead through a Joe Armitage penalty but Lower Hopton steamed into a 3-1 advantage, only to be pulled back by a goal from Luke Adams with 15 minutes to go.

In the league, fourth-bottom St Bede's continue to improve in Division One and took a deserved point from their 3-3 draw at home to Collingham.

In a game of contrasting styles, Saints used the long ball well against opponents whose short passing game made for an absorbing contest.

Mark Pieri gave Collingham the lead but by the interval impressive St Bede's striker Brad Holland had put them 2-1 ahead.

James Rowlands levelled the scores before Admir Zenkovic gave Saints a 3-2 lead that was cancelled out in the 60th minute by Collingham top scorer Richard Metcalfe.

There was no joy, however, for third-bottom St Bede's Reserves, who went down 3-0 at Huddersfield Amateur Reserves in Division Two.

Mohammed Odair (2) and Gareth Jowett notched the goals against a steadily improving young reserve team who were pleased to go in 0-0 at the interval.

Hosts Bainbridge had a rare 0-0 draw against fellow mid-table side Almondburians in Division Three, Bainbridge central defender Usman Amir being outstanding.

All the goals in the clash between home side Farsley Celtic Juniors, who were fifth, and third-placed Old Centralians Reserves came in the first half, with the visitors triumphing 3-2.

Rob Smith, Glen King and the section's joint-leading scorer Dave Allanson gave Centralians the advantage. But Farsley came back with goals for Chad Morris, in the 16th minute, and Alex Gyte (39), making life hard for the eventual winners.

Despite goals from Jordan Berry and Chad Newman, visitors North Leeds Reserves were unable to stop St Bede's Thirds' climb to third in Division Five with goals from Kris Balodis, in the first half, and Kev Benson (2) in the second.
