Luke Wright brought up his third LV= County Championship century of season to hold up Yorkshire’s bid for victory on day four at Scarborough.
The England limited-overs all-rounder shared a fifth-wicket partnership of 127 inside 36 overs with Steffan Piolet, taking the Sussex score from 48-4 during yesterday’s third day to 175-4 today.
Steve Patterson then struck in the penultimate over of the morning to get Piolet caught at third slip for 32 and the visitors reached lunch without further addition at 175-5, leading by 50.
Sussex had started their second innings 125 behind and they wiped off that deficit ten overs into the morning. Piolet was dropped at a fine gully by Tim Bresnan off Jack Brooks on 15.
Wright resumed this afternoon on 106 not out with Ben Brown for company.
