EVO-STIK League newcomers Brighouse Town are joint-top of the Division One North table after winning their first game following promotion.

Town were Northern Counties East League Premier Division champions and continued their momentum by despatching visitors Radcliffe Borough 2-1.

Tom Mathews got the new campaign off to a good start when he gave Brighouse a 15th-minute lead, with Adam Field doubling the advantage midway through the first half.

Radcliffe somewhat spoiled the party when they snatched a late goal after being awarded a penalty two minutes into stoppage time, which Chris Mason slotted in.

Farsley's opening day ended in defeat as they lost 3-0 at Lancaster City.

They conceded a harsh penalty when an early ball into the area hit a stray hand. Tom Kilifin netted from the spot – and he scored again just before half-time.

Aaron Taylor added the third four minutes after the interval and although Neil Parsley's men had their own chances, they could not make any inroads into Lancaster's lead.
