City’s flying start to the season put down a marker at Valley Parade, insisted Phil Parkinson.

Two goals from James Hanson and an Alan Sheehan penalty earned the Bantams a thrilling 3-2 verdict over Coventry this afternoon.

A delighted Parkinson said: “We deserved the win, even though it looked like we might have to settle for a point. It was an outstanding performance from the lads.

“I said to them before the game to put a marker down in front of our own supporters and we certainly did that. It sent everyone away happy.

“We’re not getting carried away with it but equally there were some good signs out there today. The first three points of the season are always crucial.”

Should have won more comfortably but what a very good performance all round, a magnificent finish, wonderful passing display and brilliant return for Jason Kennedy. My only concern was Jordan Pickford on crosses. ..but he will surely get better on that with coaching and competition from Urwin and Williams. Really well done City. A great start!

Yes, I agree that Pickford flapped a bit on crosses but I prefer to remember his brilliant first half clearance that almost set up a goal. There is no way that McLaughlin could have done that.

Early days yet, lets's give the lad a chance before we get on his back.

Delighted with the victory yesterday , but even more delighted with the style of football. I was very critical of the manager and the hoof it football we saw week in week out last season. Although I was never in the parky out brigade, I began to give up the ghost when we played a defensive formation for the Walsall home game. However on the evidence of yesterday parky has shown that he is not a one dimensional coach, and he has completely transformed our style of play, has recruited players who are very comfortable on the ball, and players with guile and vision who served up some great football. I know that ultimately football is all about getting results, but I can live with losing games by the odd goal in 5 if we are having a right go and getting the fans on their feet. I have to concede that I didn't think parky had the ability to completely reform the team as he has done, but I am more than happy to eat humble pie.

I was never good enough a footballer to get on any footballers back but he still scares me.
