WYKE under-14s earned the derby bragging rights with a 30-14 home victory over Wibsey in the Yorkshire Junior League.

The hosts carved out an 18-6 interval lead, with Cameron Scott (2), Liam Naven and, from a great team move, winger Danny Worby being the try-scorers.

Tempers flared in the second half but Scott's hat-trick try kept Wibsey at arm's length.

Wyke's awards went to Ryan Sharkey (man of the match), Cain Holdsworth (top tackler and parents' man of the match), Sebastian Blanco (opposition's choice as man of the match) and debutant Anthony Davis (coaches' award).

Wyke under-12s defeated second-placed visitors Newsome Panthers 24-20 on one of the hottest evenings of the year.

The home side were soon up to speed, tries coming from the Petyt twins Kian and Bailey, Joe Ockerby and a length-of-the-pitch sprint by Dawson Birkett, with Seth Whomack converting.

Ahead 18-6 at the interval, the heat took its toll on Wyke in the second half and within ten minutes the Panthers had scored three tries and led 20-18.

After some advice from the coaches, Wyke began to take control again with strong tackling and determined running from

Alan Taylor, Blaine Shearer and Joel Slater.

But it was man of the match Joe Ockerby who crossed the line in the last minute of the game to give Wyke victory.

Birkett was the opposition's choice as man of the match, while the coaches' award went to Creddy Taylor.
