Andrew Davies won't pass up chance to get forward for Bradford City

Andrew Davies, left, reckons he can offer more than just "standing there kicking a ball to James Hanson"

ANDREW Davies provided the biggest laugh of City's trip to Ireland when he fell in a heap after a run upfield.

With the Bantams in control against Shelbourne, the centre half joined in the fun and surged over the halfway line.

Unfortunately he started to lose his footing before landing on the floor, to much hilarity from fans and team-mates.

But not deterred, Davies tried it again in the second half and claimed the assist when he squared for Billy Clarke to score from 20 yards.

With City looking to mix up their style of play, Davies is keen to bring the ball out more from the back this season.

He said: "It's always been part of my game that I like to try. I used to do it a lot when I was 18 or 19.

"It's something I want to get involved in. But I was laughing for half of that first run – at least the second time worked better!

"I always find the more risks you take and more forward passes you can make, the better player you become.

"It makes you less predictable if you can push forward and create a little bit of space and look for a pass, instead of just standing there kicking a ball to Hans (James Hanson) or keeping it simple."

Davies felt the squad needed freshening up for their second term in League One and appreciates the quality of City's summer recruits.

"It's always good to get fresh faces in and there seem to be a lot of players who are neat and tidy on the ball," he said.

"You've got to bring in the right players with the right attitude who are willing to go out there and give everything."
