Bradford darts fans will be going Dutch when Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld hit the city.

The Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Odsal will be turned orange for the night on Friday, September 26 as the super-powers of the oche square off in an exhibition.

Barney recently toppled reigning world champion van Gerwen to win the Premier League for the first time. The pair then teamed up to win the World Cup of darts for Holland.

Both have appeared locally before and Barney said: “I really enjoyed the night in Bradford.

“From memory I think we were at Low Moor and the crowd were brilliant. I always enjoy coming to the area and the Premier League in Leeds was amazing.

“An exhibition is more relaxed than normal but I am still there to win. The fans have paid to watch and it is always nice to play well for them.

“Michael is the world number one on merit. He deserves to be there and nobody can take that away from him but (winning the Premier League final) showed I have the ability to beat him.

“He is a great guy but there are no friends when you are on stage. There is always that extra edge because we are the best two in Holland.”

Yorkshire’s former world champion Dennis Priestley will also be involved and there will be a chance for a couple of members of the audience to take on the two Dutchmen. All the usual paraphernalia that surrounds the top PDC events will be featured.

Van Gerwen said: “We were in Keighley last year and the crowd were brilliant. This is a much bigger event but I expect it to be the same.

“I like coming to Yorkshire as the crowds turn out in force and always have a great time.”

Promoter Mick Speight, of MJK Sports Events, said: “We work throughout the UK but we are a local company and bringing MVG and RVA to Bradford is a pleasure.

“We really do hope that this is the first of many large sports events that we will hold in the city.”
