Kyel Reid confirmed the end of his City career today after joining League One rivals Preston on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old winger, a key figure in the Bantams’ fairytale 2012/13 campaign, was out of contract on June 30.

He will officially join Simon Grayson’s side, beaten play-off semi-finalists last season, on July 1 after undergoing a rigorous medical on the knee injury which forced him to miss the second half of last term.

Reid join City from Charlton in 2011 and made over 100 appearances – including the Capital One Cup final and play-off finals at Wembley, scoring 13 goals along the way.

Reid said: “Obviously I’ve been at Bradford a long time, I’ve got some good memories and great times I have had there.

“I would just like to thank everyone at Bradford, the club, the manager, the staff and everyone that looked after me and made me welcome for the three season that I was there but now I just want to get my head down, get fit and focus on doing my bit for Preston North End.”

On his injury setback last season, Reid added: “The injury came at a bad time for me, because things were going well for me in my football career, but its part and parcel of being a footballer, these things come it’s just how you come back from it.

“I’ve just been working hard keeping my head down to be come back stronger and I just know that it was only a matter of time before something good would actually come up and it has.”

Meanwhile, defender Matthew Bates has joined Hartlepool following his departure from City at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old former Middlesbrough trainee becomes Pools boss Colin Cooper's first signing of the summer.
