Bradford clubs Jer Lane and Thornton were the only winners in a rain-hit first round of the Foster’s Halifax League Parish Cup.

Nasir Chowdrey took four wickets and Simon Collins 3-9 off seven overs as holders Jer Lane dismissed Outlane for 100.

Jer passed that target in only ten overs for the loss of two wickets, the in-form Jordan Laban making an unbeaten 68.

Thornton also faced lower-division opposition, but had to recover from 7-3 against Wibsey Park Chapel at Bradford Park Avenue.

Ross Soames and Mick Shanks began the fightback that was continued by Nick (58no) and Josh Hutchinson (42no, including three huge sixes), who were batting lower down the order as they had competed in the Leeds Half Marathon in the morning.

Josh then took a wicket in Wibsey’s first over, and they never recovered, being dismissed for 46.

Joe Blencowe and Mark Clayton bagged four wickets apiece, Clayton continuing to take a shine to Avenue’s ground, having taken nine wickets there for Clayton Seconds at the end of last season.

In the Crossley Shield, Denholme Clough lost at home to Triangle.

All the other matches have been re-arranged for this Sunday, with bowl-outs in the offing if there is more bad weather.
