Bradford Bulls 34, Warrington Wolves 28

Adrian Purtell grabbed a second-half brace as the Bulls climbed above London Broncos and off the foot of the table with a stunning victory over Warrington this afternoon.

The Australian centre, deployed in the back row due to the Bulls’ crippling injury crisis, produced two clinical finishes to hand his team their first Super League win since March 2.

Francis Cummins’ side lost Luke George to injury during the warm-up and saw full back Brett Kearney helped off the field during the first half.

But they showed incredible spirit to dig deep and claim a potentially priceless win on a day when Antonio Kaufusi and Joe Arundel made their debuts.

Warrington led early on through Anthony England but the Bulls soon replied through Jamie Foster and then forged ahead through Kearney’s brilliant breakaway score.

However, Warrington scored again through Kevin Penny and Joel Monaghan either side of Tom Olbison’s effort, giving the visitors a 22-16 interval lead.

Purtell then grabbed his first in the 48th minute for a converted try which levelled the scores, and, although Matty Russell scampered clear for a Warrington try, Purtell’s second and Elliot Kear’s late clincher sent Odsal wild at the final whistle.

Couldn't make the game due to living away from the area but the little reporting on Radio Leeds made for promising listening, and according to the coverage suggested that Wire were lucky to be leading for most of the game. Ashame that Wakefield squeaked past an out of sorts Hull but hopefully we can get at least two points back on appeal.

Even with all out lost playing staff London and Wakefield are the two worst teams in the league and deserve to be relegated. Widnes and Cas have proved that with the right mentality a team lacking super stars can consistently achieve results. Surely this must bring a glimmer of hope to the beleaguered Bulls for the years to come?!

Great day for us Bulls fans. The boys showed passion & determination today Gaskell was awesome & finally saw aggression from our pack in Kaufasi he is a monster. I was impressed with Pitts again. There were rumblings round the ground today that Mr Scruton is coming back. I hope so he is a Bull through & through he shouldn't have left in the first place for that shower he is playing for at present. Does anyone know what happened to George. The only negative side is we have more injuries.

A great result by the Bulls, but as always it seems they get something in one had (a great win today) but then something gets taken with the other (Wildcat win at Hull).
Still mentally not being on negative points now will be a bonus and a huge lift.

Superb win. Could have been better too had we not let in 3 easy scores down our left flank. Tighten up defensively and we can pick up wins. Beginning to feel more like the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched on. Just keep tackling boys!!!
