Jer Lane made it two Foster’s Halifax League wins out of two in the defence of their Premier Division title as they eased past Warley by six wickets.

Sam Wilson’s 4-55 helped dismiss hosts Warley for 162 and although Mick Hustler’s men lost Andrew Pinfield for just seven, the rest of the top six all contributed well as Raqeeb Younas top-scored with 54.

This gave Lane a maximum 24 points alongside fellow early pace-setters Sowerby Bridge, who edged out Booth by a single wicket, and Mytholmroyd, who flattened last year’s runners-up Blackley by ten wickets.

Booth had beaten Thornton by nine wickets in their opening match but the Bradford side bounced back with a two-wicket home victory over Copley.

A fifth-wicket stand of 126 between Nick Gomersal (64) and Mark Baldwin (52) dominated Copley’s innings as they recovered from 22-5 to post 170, Joe Blencowe taking 6-44.

The fluctuating nature of the contest continued as Thornton slipped to 17-4 in reply.

But Ross Soames (62), Ross Parr (34), Mick Shanks (32) and ultimately Blencowe (16no) nudged Thornton home with an over to spare to thwart Ian Hartley (5-38).

Amjad Ali has certainly hit the ground running for Queensbury, who have made a bright start in their quest to step up on last year’s third-place finish in Division One.

Ali blasted 146 not out in his side’s win at Outlane on the first weekend and followed up with 74 and 5-52 as they crushed 2012 champions SBCI by 128 runs.

It was by no means a one-man show, with Scott Osbourne making 103 while Ali hit ten sixes and one four for the home side. Tom Wood took 3-41 but SBCI were still left chasing a total of 280-6.

That proved way beyond them as spinners Ali and Gurdiv Singh (4-36) set to work, with SBCI being dismissed for 152.

Oxenhope had to settle for two points from a draw against champions Low Moor, while the same applied to Clayton against Northowram Hedge Top as the weather intervened.

Bridgeholme have maximum points in Division Two after Dan Fielden (34no) and Ollie Challis (32no) helped them from 56-5 to a target of 118 for victory at Shelf.

A total of 13 wickets fell for 81 runs and no batsman made double figures at Bradford Park Avenue, where Wibsey Park Chapel bowled out Greetland for 40 and won by seven wickets. Matthew Jordan and Stuart Fenton claimed five victims apiece.

Elsewhere, Denholme Clough beat Old Crossleyans by 17 runs.
