Repeat dose from Wharfedale is just what the doctor ordered
Worthing Raiders 34, Wharfedale 38
An open game of rugby in the sunshine of the south coast saw a repeat scoreline of the fIrst game of the season, with Dale again getting a fine result in SSE National League One.
Greens coach Jon Feeley was aware that Worthing would be dangerous to play against and that Dale had to have the right mind-set for the match.
He said: "The character shown by the players in the second half was outstanding. It was the domination of our scrum that turned the match in our favour but this was a win when all 20 players contributed."
Worthing outscored Wharfedale by six tries to five but only two were successfully converted, with Dale forcing them to score out wide.
Tom Barrett was successful with four conversions and Tom Davidson added the fifth and a penalty.
In a ding-dong first half, Jordan Burns scored first for Raiders and Jack Barnard replied for Dale.
Fast winger Alex Nielsen then scored for Worthing before Joe Donkin went over for the visitors.
Another Nielsen try was added to by a bonus point try from No 8 Liam Perkins and then Josh Burridge brought Dale back into the game with a try just before half-time.
However, the Greens still trailed 22-21 at half-time - a lead Worthing deserved.
Then, in a frantic session of scoring, there were three tries in seven minutes early in the second half.
Firstly man of the match Davidson scored for the Greens. Nielsen then grabbed his third try of the game, a five-pointer by Charlie McGowan taking the Sussex side into a 34-28 lead.
Dale's pack now began to dominate the set-piece, and a converted try from Chris Steel and a penalty from Davidson gave Wharfedale a fine victory.
