Wharfedale flyer Taylor Prell (Giggleswick School) scored two tries and Prince Henry’s Grammar School flanker Josh Bainbridge a try as England Under-18s won their third consecutive FIRA-AER European Championship.

Both are attached to Leeds Carnegie, Bainbridge coming on as a second-half replacement, and England’s other try in a 30-14 defeat of Ireland in Wronki, Poland, came from centre Lucas Slowik (Filton College and Bristol Rugby), Harry Mallinder (Rugby School and Northampton Saints) adding ten points with the boot.

Prell’s first try on 23 minutes owed much to his pace and an eye for the gap and put England 10-7 ahead with Mallinder’s conversion.

In a dominant second half, England extended the lead through Prell after a good break from Mallinder before Bainbridge rounded the win off, touching down at the bottom of a rolling maul.

Full back Prell said: “I’m pleased to get two tries, but I’m more pleased to have got the win.

“Massive credit to Ireland, it was a great game to play in, and both sides played their part. We’ve grown close as a squad and have had three good wins – Poland has been great, and we’ve enjoyed every minute.”

Prince Henry’s Grammar School prop Lewis Boyce was Leeds Carnegie’s other representative in the England 26, playing for the first 50 minutes, while Bainbridge came on after 41 minutes.
