SIR - In the T&A on July 5 a fire at a factory in Brighouse was covered. The article said that 'the whole factory - a 3,600 square metre building, roughly the area of 10 IMAX screens - was caught up in the fire'.

Why was it deemed necessary to refer to IMAX screens? The area was given. It was 3,600 square metres!

Many years ago the BBC, and others, encouraged the country to adopt the metric system of measures. This we did, and whilst not as useful for everyday measurements, it is better for scientific work, and is universal around the world.

But in recent times the BBC has started to use its own units of measurement. For example, 'The helicopter crash spread debris over an area of two football pitches, flames rising as high as a double-decker bus, resulting in a crater with a volume half the size of an Olympic swimming pool'.

Disregarding the fact that there is no standard size for a football pitch, the BBC may be beyond redemption. But please, not the T&A!
