SIR - There are MPs in both Conservative and Labour parties opposed to a third runway at Heathrow in London. Some will vote with party, some with conscience, when the vote on this project takes place. But, surely the prizes for MP "who showed morale cowardice" or "who put ambition ahead of principle" must go to Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson.

This is the man who once claimed, using his usual hyperbole, he would "lie down in front of the bulldozers" before he would accept a third runway at Heathrow! And of course, there has been speculation, since the Government signalled its intention to favour the protect, about what he would do. We shouldn't have wondered for long for as it was announced in advance he would be out of the country when the vote takes place.

Mr Boris Johnson will always do what is best for himself as his first choice when it comes to important decisions, as shown time after time in the past.
