SIR - 'Oh to be in England now that we're winning with style' says one of our national newspapers. It goes on to tell us that 'we're basking in a glorious summer after that heart-swelling match'. I just ask myself: has the self esteem of the English sunk so low that a victory over Panama is greeted with a degree of euphoria that would be over the top even if we had actually won the World Cup?

More rational souls might see it as more akin to the outcome of a match between Manchester United and Accrington Stanley in the third round of the FA Cup and celebrate accordingly.
