SIR - I note that no details were printed other than a photograph of the crashed bomber in Idle High Street in 1941.
My late mother's recollections of the incident may be of interest. At the time, she and my late father, Fred Ackroyd, lived in Westfield Lane, Idle.
Then, an engineering draftsman working at Crofts Engineers on various war related projects - including tank safety mechanisms - he was in a reserved occupation, so had been appointed to run a local Homeguard unit.
Apparently, the German pilot bailed out of the plane and landed in the fields behind Westfield Lane and was arrested by my father who marched him to Town Gate, near to the site of the crash, to summon help.
Whilst guarding the young man, in the face of some local hostility, my father questioned the pilot's motive and involvement in the war, and was told that his own family had been damaged by British attacks on Germany.
Subsequently, as a member of the WRVS, my mother Winifred (Wyn) helped to re-home some of those affected by the crash.
