SIR - The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, was keen to tell us recently that those involved in police chases, and ignoring blue lights, could rightly expect to be jailed.

However, one has to ask just what is the point in him making such statements when this is simply not happening?

The latest example (T&A, June 16) is of Judge Colin Burn imposing a suspended sentence on Asad Ahmed despite him leading the police in a chase on some of Bradford's busiest roads for more than three miles. In that time he drove at 60 mph over speed bumps, ran red lights, forced other drivers to swerve, and narrowly missed someone on a pedestrian crossing.

The Recorder of Bradford needs to tell us all why we are constantly being let down by him and his colleagues. Otherwise perhaps he should cease making high-profile and welcome announcements that turn out to be nonsense.
