SIR - As someone who made use of this building for 16 years for additional use by Priestthorpe Primary School, I have watched with sadness and dismay it dereliction and now probable demolition (T&A, June 18). Only Bradford Council, as trustees of the building, could instruct its Estates Division to remove the roof tiles in April 2009 just one year after advertising the property for sale price £400,000 plus.

The Council's Legal Services finally gained knowledge of the restrictive covenants and withdrew the sale. The Bingley Technical and Art School was built by public subscription for a late tribute to Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and had equal importance to the Mechanic's Institute. I wish the developers well in stabilising the copious cellar spaces that lie beneath the whole structure before building the proposed house. I also await the financial settlement due to education in Bingley from the sale, as directed in the covenants.
