SIR - Most people in Bradford will be aware of the continuous traffic problems on Canal Road between the city centre and Shipley, with queues the norm for most of the day for at least six days a week.

We now read (T&A, May 15) that Bradford Council has given the go-ahead for 700 houses to be built at Bolton Woods, which is virtually adjacent to Canal Road. Just what is this going to do to the traffic issues on Canal Road other than to make them even worse?

A Council with any common sense would ensure that the transport infrastructure in the area was substantially improved before any work was allowed to commence.

Unfortunately this is Bradford Council that we are talking about.
